**It remains extremely cold nationwide, however no reports of severe or black ice has been reported so far. Road temperatures remain below -6° C in counties Monaghan, Cavan, Westmeath and Tipperary and below -2° C on a large majority of National routes elsewhere. Most of the National routes have been treated so use them where possible, reduce speed significantly and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. *MAIN TRAFFIC* *LOUTH* The full length of the Dundalk to Carrickmacross Rd (R178) is closed from today until next year to facilitate major roadworks. Diversions are signposted and HGV's are requested to follow the outer diversions via Castleblaney or Ardee. *WICKLOW* Gardai advise drivers to avoid Sally Gap due icy conditions. (A number of vehicles got stuck there yesterday) * Works are underway on the old N11 (R772) from Rathnew to the N11 jct until 4pm today. *REGIONAL CITIES* *CORK* Particular care is needed on Gerald Griffin St and on parts of Sundays Well Rd in the city due to icy road conditions. Traffic is moving quite well through the city centre at present. *GALWAY* No major problems for city centre traffic at present. Motorists are advised to expect delays on the Spiddle Rd due to roadworks underway in Barna until Sat 10th Jan. *WATERFORD* Nothing out of the ordinary to report for city centre traffic. A bridge lift is scheduled for Rice Bridge at 3:30pm, so expect some minor delays along the Quay and inbound on the Ferrybank DCW as a result. *LIMERICK* No major delays and nothing out of the ordinary to report for city centre or commuter traffic. *EVENTS* *MAYO* The Lord Of The Dance takes place at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar at 8pm each night, until this Thursday (8th Jan). The Royal Theatre is located on the Old Wesport Rd in Castlebar. Delays can be expected on the N5, N60 and N84 before and after the event. *ROADWORKS* *CORK* Until Sat 8th Jan, Mill Rd in Skibbereen will be closed from its jct of the R593 & N71 to the jct of the R593 & The Bog Cross at Maulbrack. Diversions will be in place. * Until Fri 23rd Jan, Convent Hill Rd will be closed to the north of Schull town for works and the alternative route is: Traffic travelling from Schull town or Ballydehob on the R592 will turn at the jct with the local road L-4414-0 signposted diversion for Convent Hill, continue to the jct with the local road L-4412-0 turning left onto the Convent Hill Rd and back towards the town and vice versa for traffic travelling from Convent Hill to Schull town or Ballydehob. |
